Morocco has improved its ranking in terms of doping risk, with the Athletics Integrity Unit, by moving from category A, that of countries with the highest risk of doping, to category B, announced Wednesday the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency (AMAD).

“The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced at the start of 2025 the reclassification of Morocco from category A (category where countries are at higher risk of doping) to category B. For reminder, Moroccan athletics has joined category A since March 5, 2020,” said AMAD in a press release.

“This reclassification of Moroccan athletics crowns the efforts of the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency (AMAD),” underlines the press release.

Since its creation, this body “has established a national anti-doping program for Moroccan sport and more specifically for the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation, in accordance with article 15.2.3 of the World Athletics anti-doping rules and in compliance with Moroccan legislation. 97-12 relating to the fight against doping in sport”, the same source specifies.

AMAD explains that countries classified in category A are subject to very restrictive requirements concerning both the number of tests to be carried out before participation in international events and the education programs.

“With this in mind, during the 18th World Athletics Championships Eugene 2022, 19th World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023, and Olympic Games Paris 2024, a respective average of 4.93; 5,4 and 8 tests per athlete was carried out, thus ranking Morocco in 4th position globally,” it is reported.
