Defender Tony DeAngelo’s epic journey in Russia was short-lived, as he decided to return to North America for family reasons.
In any case, this is what his club SKA Saint Petersburg confirmed on Tuesday. The contract linking the player to the team was thus terminated by mutual agreement.
This fall, he signed a one-season agreement with the Continental Hockey League (KHL) organization. Before his departure, DeAngelo was his team’s fifth best scorer with six goals and 26 assists for 32 points in 34 games, while being the fourth best scorer among defensemen on the circuit.
Drafted 19th in the National Hockey League (NHL) amateur auction in 2014 by the Tampa Bay Lightning, the 29-year-old had 48 goals and 162 assists for 210 points in 371 games with the Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers.
-The 5’11” guard will likely try to find work in the NHL, even if his controversial personality could dampen the enthusiasm of several teams.
