This Tuesday, France football was in time for the Cup. If, as is often the case, there were meetings with clubs that were little known at the national level, there was a duel at the top between Marseille and Lille.
A duel at the Vélodrome that the Phocéens were keen to win to take a step towards a first trophy in the competition since 1989. And yet, it was Hakon Arnar Haraldsson who opened the scoring in the 68th minute of play.
On penalties
And while we were heading towards a victory and therefore a qualification for the Northerners, Luis Henrique equalized at the very end of stoppage time. The two teams would therefore immediately go to penalties.
In this little game, Marseille was going to crack under the pressure and was going to miss two attempts. Opposite, Meunier’s teammates sent everything to the bottom and therefore qualified for the next round.
A new trophy?
Present on the pitch from start to finish, Meunier saw his team achieve an important victory before the reception of Nice then the trip to Liverpool for the resumption of the Champions League.
Finalist in the Turkish Cup last season with Trabzonspor, Meunier has not won a trophy since 2021 and the German Cup with Dortmund. As a reminder, the Belgian has already won the French Cup, with Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. He also has a Belgian Cup with Club Bruges in 2015.
