This Sunday, in Switzerland, Astrid Cheylus performed the first women’s double backflip in the history of freeride. An XXL performance that Mila de le Rue, daughter of Xavier, also achieved a few minutes later.
Never before has a woman achieved such a feat in a Freeride World Tour competition. On Sunday, during a backcountry competition in Nendaz, Switzerland, Astrid Cheylus landed a double backflip, a first in women’s freeride. “I picked up as much speed as possible and pushed hard on my legs. It was incredible,” declared the skier from La Clusaz immediately. Reproducing it on the FWT would ensure him a stage victory. Her friend Manon Loschi tried it, in vain, in Verbier, in 2024.
But one exploit can hide another. Only a few minutes later, Mila De le Rue performs the same figure, in the same place, and lands the second double backflip in history. Xavier de le Rue’s daughter even won the competition thanks to her run. The 18-year-old freerider, based in Verbier, will be competing this season in the Freeride World Tour Challenger. For sure one of the favorites with this kind of performance.
Widened window for the Baqueira Beret stage
-The Freeride World Tour is about to begin with a first stage in the Spanish Pyrenees, in Baqueira Beret. The organizers have announced a wide shooting window, the competition will take place between January 16 and 23. As a reminder, the second stage will be held at the end of the month, in Val Thorens. A first for the Savoyard resort.
