On Monday, John Textor did not fail to criticize the functioning of the LFP as well as the role played by PSG and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. Both parties quickly reacted to the OL owner's comments.
John Weaver has many faults since his arrival at OL, but there is one thing that cannot be taken away from him: his frankness and his ability to lead a battle against the PSG and the League. This obviously allows him not to answer certain more annoying questions about his management and his project at OL, but the American owner is clearly not the type to keep his tongue in his pocket. He demonstrated this again on Monday during an interview with RMC for an hour. All the subjects have been covered, but the remarks made against Vincent Labrunepresident of the LFP, and Nasser Al-Khelaïfipresident of PSGclearly made headlines.
Describing Labrune like a “dog”, Weaver logically attracted the wrath of all parties concerned. The League was quick to react, expressing “his surprise at the recent statements of John Textor, president of Olympique Lyonnais.” The LFP highlighted “several misunderstandings which appear clearly” with “the DNCG which is an independent institution”the “meeting of the Ligue 1 college chaired by Jean-Pierre Caillot (the president of Reims) and not a board of directors”.
“Too bad you can’t buy class and elegance…”
For his part, the PSG was not left out in qualifying the words of the American owner of theOL. Relations with Al-Khelaïfi are more than tense and it is not this outing that is likely to help things. The Parisian club, contacted by several media, issued a press release that was just as direct in the words chosen. “It’s a shame that class and elegance cannot be bought, because that would have prevented Mr. Textor from making a fool of himself through his crude and lying excesses against our President, our institution and our fans. May he come back to earth, and to France too, to better understand this Ligue 1 that we love so much.” The war seems definitively underway between the two clubs.
