Lausanne: Football fans and the scourge of stickers

The scene repeats itself tirelessly, like a ritual. Between Lausanne train station and the city’s stadiums, supporters gathered in a procession stick numerous stickers in the colors of their club on bus shelters, road signs and lampposts. Considering that it is a “scourge”, which must be fought, municipal councilor Valéry Beaud (The Greens) followed the procession of the ultras, during a meeting between the SLO and Lucerne . According to his estimates, supporters leave behind around 800 waste stickers, for around 400 stickers affixed to street furniture, when they go to Pontaise. For La Tuilière, this figure would even rise to 600, explains “24 Heures”.

Considering that this is damage to property, the elected official asked the City to sanction the supporters, in the same way as a person caught in the act of littering (fine of 150 francs), or else that she makes the clubs pay. The Municipality has just answered him: it can do neither. “It is not possible for the agents of the Urban Cleanliness Service to issue an order fine, in the circumstances of the procession,” considers the City. Nor is it possible to charge third parties for losses. Only the perpetrator caught in the act, and after identification, can be fined. The Vaudois daily also recalls that, from next spring, special trains will no longer stop in Lausanne. In principle, the processions will leave from Prilly-Malley.
