Sunday, the Pro League has its traditional topper in store for us. Club Brugge seems to be the favorite.
During the first leg, Anderlecht were outclassed by the Blauw in Zwart but almost left the Jan Breydelstadion with a point, Zanka’s huge miss decided otherwise.
The topper remains a separate match. But for Hugo Broos, it has lost a little of its flavor: “The rivalry is a little less present these days. It has a lot to do with Anderlecht in recent years,” he said in Het Laatste Nieuws.
Sporting wants to return to the top
Last season, Anderlecht yet believed he could win the title. But the Mauves have come a long way and have fallen behind their secular enemy: “It’s no longer the same Anderlecht as before,” continued Broos. “That’s why it’s no longer THE match of the year.”
Broos played for both clubs during his playing career. The former Red Devil played 457 matches for Brussels and 206 for Club Brugge. He also managed both teams during his coaching career. He sees a clear favorite for Sunday.
“For me, there is still a clear difference between the two teams, even if Anderlecht is gradually returning to a good level. But the Club de Bruges is the strongest team. Of course, this must be proven on the ground. But don’t think that Anderlecht are ready to beat the Club at the moment,” he concluded.
