Omar Kane, known as Reug Reug, presented his MMA world champion belt to Fatou Diouf, the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, during a ceremony organized at the Ousmane sphere auditorium Tanor Dieng. The event brought together various personalities, including the mayor of Thiaroye and notable members of the community, as well as many young people from the town, report our colleagues from The Daily.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, the wrestler wanted to send a strong message to young people on the dangers of illegal immigration by sea, a scourge which continues to affect Thiaroye and other coastal communities. Reug Reug recalled a significant episode in his life: in 2008, when a canoe was preparing to leave for an illegal migration, he chose to stay, convinced that he could succeed at home. “I believed in my potential and was sure that what people were looking for abroad, I could have in my country,” he said to applause.

In a move for the future, Reug Reug expressed his wish, supported by the President of the Republic, to create a complex in Diamniadio dedicated to the training of young people in mixed martial arts (MMA). This project aims to offer new perspectives to Senegalese youth, showing them that it is possible to succeed locally. “It is a strong message that Reug Reug is sending to the young people of this country,” underlined Fatou Diouf. She also stressed the importance of traveling legally, deploring the deadly risks of illegal emigration.
