One of the men behind Standard’s double has left us: Reto Stiffler, president from 2000 to 2011, has died – All football

Reto Stiffler, president of Standard from 2000 to 2011, has left us. He was manager of Rouches during the golden period of 2008-2009 and the two championship titles.

He was a man in the shadows, less known than Robert Louis-Dreyfus and, of course, Lucien D’Onofrio. But Reto Stiffler also had his role to play in the prosperous period experienced by Standard in 2008 and 2009. The Swiss was president of Matricule 16 from 2000 to 2011, in a non-executive role, decisions being taken by the Onofrio-François duo.

Friend of Robert Louis-Dreyfus, Reto Stiffler has died at the age of 85, the Standard confirmed in a press release paying tribute to him. His presence was discreet but Stiffler was sometimes there during the winter or summer camps.

The most beautiful moment of his career as president, he of course attended at the stadium, namely the championship titles of 2008 and 2009 – the last won by Standard de Liège in its history so far. Before his departure, Rouches won the Cup in 2011.

The Standard press release:

“It is with immense sadness that we have just learned today of the death of Reto STIFFLER, former President of our club between 2000 and 2011, at the age of 84.

His track record includes 2 Belgian Champion titles, in 2008 and 2009, and a Belgian Cup in 2011.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

Rest in peace, President.”
