The Arcachon Bassin Rugby Club is starting the new year with a trip to the summit. This Sunday, at 3:15 p.m., David Banquet’s men will travel to the Marius-Rodrigo stadium to face Mauléon, 5th in the championship. With only two units difference, this duel between contenders for the final phases of Nationale 2 promises to be decisive in the fight to stay at the top of the table.
The RCBA team, currently 6th, approaches this meeting with a positive dynamic. Their superb series of four consecutive victories at home in December allowed them to jump up the rankings. This rise in power also showed a team united and capable of managing decisive matches.
A trip in the form of a test
The end-of-year break came at just the right time for the RCBA. The players took advantage of this break to rest, spend time with family and treat accumulated injuries. The resumption of training was studious and marked by a collective desire to maintain the momentum acquired in December. “We showed at home that we can compete with the best teams. Now we have to succeed in doing it outside,” says David Banquet.
This trip to Mauléon represents a real test against a direct competitor. The Basques, solid fifth, rely on a physical and well-organized team. Undefeated at home this season, they are counting on their home crowd to maintain their invincibility. During the first leg, the Bassinois won 23-16 at the Alain Biramben stadium. A performance that they hope to repeat.
-For the RCBA, a victory on Sunday would confirm their progress and place them even more firmly in the race for the final stages. The players, now in full possession of their physical means, want to prove that they are capable of repeating their performances. This meeting could well mark a turning point for these two teams at the end of the season.
