Would you be willing to sacrifice this to bring Sidney Crosby to Montreal?

While the Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t going anywhere and certainly won’t be in a position to aspire to win the Stanley Cup in the next few years, could we witness the unthinkable and see their franchise player Sidney Crosby ask to be traded because he can’t stand losing anymore?

If this is the case, could he be tempted to come play in Montreal, having always loved the Canadian in his youth because of his father?

In a highly hypothetical scenario, the journalist Mathias Brunet of The Press raised a question during the most recent episode of the podcast Process.

What if Sidney Crosby asked Penguins management to trade him but would demand to go to Montreal. Would you agree to give the Canadian’s 1st round pick in the next draft if he was the 16th overall pick?

On the one hand, the Canadian would sacrifice a prospect with excellent potential. On the other, he would receive one of the best players in NHL history, under contract for two more years, who is still producing at a point-per-game pace even though he is 37 years old. Even if the Canadiens’ window to win the Stanley Cup would not yet be open, there would be no doubt that Crosby would be the best mentor for the team’s youngsters during his time there.

Let’s take the time to point out here that the Penguins’ asking price for Crosby would certainly be higher than a first-round pick. But if we play the game proposed by Brunet, would you accept this transaction if you were CEO of CH?

  • Aged 37, Sidney Crosby is a 5’11″/200lbs left-handed center selected in the 1st round (1st overall) during the 2005 draft. So far this season, he has compiled a record of 11 goals and 33 assists for a total of 44 points in 42 games He has 2 more seasons remaining on his contract, earning him an average of $8.7 million per year.
