Stade Brestois will stay in Guingamp for the Champions League!

This Wednesday afternoon, the Finistère club published a press release to this effect signed by its president Denis Le Saint: “Like the strong demand for the reception of Real Madrid at the end of January, the idea, for a time, was to plan at the Stade de in order to satisfy the greatest number of lovers of the Rouge et Blanc but also to grow the club to increase its national and international visibility, it is written. But this relocation appears restrictive for all stakeholders, as for its most loyal supporters (…) With the firm desire to see the team continue to perform in an environment that is successful for it and also aware of the tight schedule which would not allow us to prepare this trip as best as possible, the decision was made, even before waiting for any response from UEFA regarding the authorization to play, or not, at the Stade de France. Denis Le Saint, President of Stade Brestois 29, has thus confirmed the fact of playing the rest of the Champions League at the Roudourou stadium.

The Le Saint wanted the Stade de France

However, just a few days ago, the trend was towards a relocation to the Stade de France, which agreed to host such an event. The idea of going there to play a Champions League match was that of the Le Saint brothers, which they had been carrying since mid-September after ’s first victory in the Champions League. This possibility had grown from week to week and Denis, president, had also firmly maintained his position in front of the Ultras, at the end of December, while the latter were protesting against it.

This turnaround in the situation would not be due to a refusal from Uefa but more to an awareness in the upper echelons of the club linked to the tension which surrounded this project. Particularly internally and the logistical constraints that such a trip would have generated.

At Roudourou, work will have to be undertaken, which concerns in particular the expansion of the press stand or the control room area. But it is indeed in the Guingamp cauldron that the European adventure will continue for Stade Brestois. As a reminder, there are still two matches to play for Brest in the League phase: against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday 22, against Real Madrid on January 29.
