What to do with Jake Evans?
Basically, the Canadian has three options at the moment: trade him at the deadline, keep him in addition to putting him under contract quickly… or let him test the autonomy market.
And there, anything can happen.
We agree that trading Jake Evans to another team at the deadline would send a very bad message to the rest of the club, which would make the playoffs if it were to start today.
I don’t believe in this scenario, even if its value could be very high.
He can bring a first round pick to the Canadian.
This sentence comes from a recruiter who spoke to Marco D’Amico, from the Responsible Gambler site. In the eyes of the recruiter, if the CH can bring back such a choice for Evans, we must think about it.
The way the market is shaping up, we’ll have to think about it, at the very least.
Like I said, I don’t necessarily believe in a trade involving Evans. The CH, which has not yet started to negotiate with him, is confident of being able to keep him.
But at what cost?
According to the recruiter, paying more than $3.5 million per year for a fourth-line player is handcuffing yourself in the long term. And as the CH has big contracts on the bottom-6…
This is why, according to him, the CH is a bit busy.
Jake Evans’ performances take him out of Montreal.
I don’t know to what extent Evans gives value to taking a smaller contract to stay here (we might think so, in light of the news from Renaud Lavoie over the last few days, but who knows), but it must be part of the equation.
Even if Oliver Kapanen and Owen Beck push, I feel that the CH knows that it is with Jake Evans that we move to the next level, which could tip the scales.
Prolongation
But if the CH gets out of the playoff race, Evans is greedy and HuGo likes the offers of other teams for Evans for the playoffs, can that change in the time of telling?
I expect to see him finish the season in town and see him sign since his best value is not against a draft pick, but on the ice at the Bell Center. But it remains the same because nothing is done.
