The winter transfer window has officially opened its doors in Belgium. La Gantoise has already seen Daniel Schmidt leave for Japan, and has already formalized his replacement.
La Gantoise wasted no time: the transfer market has been open since Tuesday in Belgium and the club has already announced double transfer news. To start, Ghent announced the departure of goalkeeper Daniel Schmidt.
A year after his arrival from STVV, the Japanese goalkeeper returned to his country of origin where he joined Nagoya Grampus. His new club has already announced the news, now confirmed by the Buffalos.
In its press release, La Gantoise indicates that Schmidt had clearly expressed the wish to play more and that he was aiming to return to Japan in order to be closer to his family. His wish was therefore granted.
At the same time, the club announced that Tom Vandenberghe was his replacement. He arrives from Kortrijk, where he started the season on the bench before taking the place of the injured Icelandic Patrik Gunnarsson.
Davy Roef’s new understudy has signed a contract running until 2027 at the Planet Group Arena.
