The new rules desired by World and put in place during the autumn tour will come into force from the third day of the Champions Cup. Among them, the time to transform will be reduced, the scrum halves will be more protected.

The EPCR has announced that the rules desired by World Rugby in order to speed up the game will come into force in the Champions and Challenge Cup for the third and fourth day of the group stage. For now, these new features remain experimental.

The scorers will therefore only have one minute left to convert the tries. As is already the case for penalty kicks.

  • 30 seconds to put the keys in place

Still with the idea of ​​reducing downtime, the placement of touches will now be limited to 30 seconds as for scrums.

  • The game can continue even in the event of an incorrect key

In the event of an incorrect throw, if the throw has not been contested by the opposing team, the game may continue.

  • Protected scrum halves

The protection of scrum halves will be increased. This way, they will be protected from opposing defenses behind rucks, scrums and mauls.

A new regulation which will also be applied in the French championships from January. Indeed, these changes will be effective during the 15th day of Top 14 and during the 18th day of Pro D2. A measure which aims to align all European competitions since the Premiership and the URC will also be concerned.
