I still managed to rent the DeLorean from Back to the future to travel back in time and I was able to see everything that was happening in the world of sports in 2025.

I achieved the same thing last year. I had experienced 2024 a year in advance. There were a lot of things I saw that didn’t happen, but others did, including that the Oilers were going to be finalists, including Canada’s gold medal record at the Paris Games. With great modesty, here is what magic has allowed me to see for 2025. We therefore place ourselves at 1is January 2026.
The Canadian is in the mix!

Finally, the Canadian is in the mix. The arrival of Aaron Ekblad, with a contract that risks aging poorly, has nevertheless transformed the face of the team’s defensive play this season. Ekblad also brings leadership and experience, which was lacking with the departure of David Savard at the trade deadline last March. The end of the contracts of Christian Dvorak and Joel Armia also gave room to Kent Hughes, who took out the checkbook for Ekblad. The CH also did well to keep Mike Matheson, who shines even more, now that he no longer has to do everything. With Ekblad, Guhle, Matheson, Hutson, Reinbacher (whom we have just recalled from Laval) and Xhekaj, the CH defense is starting to impose itself. Fans are complaining much less about trading Logan Mailloux for a first-round pick. We forget it more easily. On offense, we knew that Ivan Demidov was going to be able to play this year, but few people would have predicted that it was Michael Hage who would have the most impact. It’s still difficult offensively for CH, but everyone sees that it’s coming before long.
Hutson, Monsieur Calder
Photo BEN PELOSSE
To think that in December 2024, we saw Lane Hutson in the “mix” to obtain the Calder Trophy (awarded to the rookie par excellence), but that he was far from being the favorite. In the end, not only did he win, but it was unanimous. His 67 points allowed him to have the best season in Canadian history for a rookie. It was the 4e best rookie season in NHL history, two points more than Raymond Bourque.
Suzuki at the Olympics

You wouldn’t have bet on it a year ago to the day, but Canadian captain Nick Suzuki will be part of Canada’s roster at the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, which begin in a few weeks. He’s likely to be the fourth center behind a few better guys in Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and team captain Sidney Crosby.
Félix in the top 10, Leylah and Diallo in the top 20

After lackluster 2024 seasons, Félix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Fernandez made Quebec vibrate. Helped by his first Masters 1000 series title and two Grand Slam semi-finals, Félix is back in the top 10. Leylah, for her part, re-entered the top 20 and flirted with 10e place, notably thanks to his final at Roland-Garros, lost at the last minute. But the other story that caught attention was the meteoric rise of Gabriel Diallo, who remained in the top 20 after his quarter-final at Wimbledon.

The return of Ferrari

After four years of driving as if he were with children, we finally expected to see Max Verstappen being overtaken by someone, namely Lando Norris with his McLaren. But no, neither Verstappen nor Norris were crowned champions. It was a Ferrari that topped them after a completely crazy championship race that allowed many fans to reconnect with F1. If you thought it was Lewis Hamilton driving this Ferrari, you are wrong. Charles Leclerc was crowned. This is a first championship since that of Kimi Raikkonen since 2007 for the Italian manufacturer.
The best team of all time

The previous record was 116 wins in 162 matches. He was overshadowed by the Dodgers this year, who, with 121 wins, became the most dominant team in baseball history. It almost came to nothing, as they won the World Series in seven games against the Orioles. But all things considered, it’s completely mind-blowing what the Dodgers were able to accomplish. Thanks to Shohei Ohtani, who had 15 victories on the mound in addition to hitting more than 50 home runs.
Rodgers with the Steelers

In 2024, Aaron Rodgers looked like deadwood with the Jets. He still returned to the game in 2025, but not in New York, since the Jets embarked on a 347e reconstruction. After a few pitchers of ayahuasca and a secluded retreat in a cave in Sri Lanka, he saw through and joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. They cut ties with Russell Wilson and reached out to Rodgers, who has always expressed his love for head coach Mike Tomlin. Rodgers and the Steelers saw their momentum halted in the conference finals against the Chargers, who then lost to the Lions in the Super Bowl. Also know that the Jaguars, in 2025, are still pockets.
