At the start of the season, Anderlecht parted ways with Brian Riemer and Jesper Fredberg. During a meeting with RSCA supporters, Wouter Vandenhaute explained the reasons which pushed the club to make these choices.
They will have helped Anderlecht a lot
When Riemer and Fredberg arrived at Anderlecht, the club was adrift. In their own way, they quickly managed to bring the Brussels club back to the top of Belgian football. Last season, the title narrowly missed out and the Mauves qualified for the group stages of the Europa League.
But following the rather average start to the season, Anderlecht decided to part ways with the two Danes: “In May, we made an in-depth evaluation. We said to ourselves that it was time to move on. After the summer transfer window , we decided to say goodbye to Brian and then to Jesper. We thought they were not able to guarantee us long-term success,” Vandenhaute said.
Concerning Riemer, we can say that the decision taken was the right one because since David Hubert took power, Anderlecht has had a string of good results and offered a more attractive game.
The dismissal of Fredberg is a little more surprising. The Danish sporting director has proven that he can build a solid core. If Anderlecht is doing so well today, it’s also thanks to him.
During this meeting with the supporters, Vandenhaute also declared that the club had made a big financial effort at the end of the transfer window to obtain the loans of Leander Dendoncker and Samuel Edozie.
Vandenhaute makes the decisions
To conclude, he declared that it is indeed him who makes the decisions: “Am I executive president or non-executive? It doesn’t change anything, I am the president.”
