After a disappointing 0 out of 6 in their last two matches, including the defeat against Francs Borains, the RSCA Futures approach the winter break with concerns about remaining in the Challenger Pro League.
After the defeat, the young Mauves find themselves penultimate again. Due to Deinze’s bankruptcy, only one team goes down, but coach Jelle Coen knows they will have to play better after the winter break. “We really need to perform better if we’re not going to struggle until the end of the season to stay on,” Coen said after the loss in The Newspaper.
Although Coen says he’s not immediately concerned, he acknowledges that adjustments are necessary. “We are constantly in the evaluation phase, and it is clear that we have to concretely modify certain things,” said the coach.
Given that the goal for this season is to remain in the Challenger Pro League next year, which is essential for the development of young players, changes need to be made. “For that we may have to act during the transfer window,” said the coach.
The club is monitoring the market to strengthen the team if necessary for the second half of the season. The RSCA Futures resume training on January 2 and leave for winter training in the Netherlands on January 3.
On January 6, the U23s will play a friendly match against Heracles Almelo, thus preparing for the rest of the season. Time for adjustments is limited, but Coen hopes the winter break will provide the opportunity to strengthen the squad.
