Servette failed to take advantage of FC Basel’s misstep on Saturday to move up the Super League standings. The Garnet lost 2-1 on the Young Boys pitch and could be 5 points behind on the lead this evening.
The visitors lined up Steve Rouiller, the usual defense boss, as defensive midfielder in the absence of Timothé Cognat (suspended). However, they struck first thanks to the inevitable Derek Kutesa (6th), the garnet number one asset who now has 11 goals to his name this season, well served by Usman Simbakoli, started in place of Enzo Crivelli.
The Bernese turned the situation around thanks to a double from Darian Males (37th/46th). However, they suffered at the end of the match, when the Servettians put intense pressure on David von Ballmoos’ goal. The YB goalkeeper was uncompromising and the Genevans also lacked success with a post from Jérémy Guillemenot in the 83rd and several offsides at the end of the game.
With only one victory in his last 7 outings, Servette finished the year 2024 on a worrying pace. The break will do him the greatest good in recharging his batteries and getting his thoughts back in the right direction.
