Senators emergency goaltender rushes to the rink

After a one-game Friday in the National Hockey League, we were spoiled last night, as 30 teams competed in 15 different games.

Several elements caught the attention, including Matvei Michkov’s good save against his team and Lane Hutson’s first career goal in the NHL.

Here are the other highlights of the day.

1. The emergency goalie runs outside to get to the game on time

A crazy story happened last night moments before the Ottawa Senators’ game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Anton Forsberg, the ’ backup goalie for the game, was injured during warmups, forcing the Senators to call in an emergency goaltender.

This emergency goalie is Zach Dietz, a 22-year-old goalie who plays for the University of Ottawa.

Having been called up at the last second, Dietz had to rush, leading to incredible footage of him racing down the highway in full goalie gear, as he attempts to make it to the game on time .

In short, Dietz will not have had to come as reinforcements in the match, but he will still have done everything not to miss a potential chance to play in the NHL.

The Senators won 3-2 in overtime, and find themselves in a playoff spot after 30 games for the first time in eight years, since the 2016-2017 season.

2. Nathan MacKinnon reaches the 50-point plateau

Who else but MacKinnon to reach this plateau first in the NHL.

The Colorado Avalanche won 5-2 against the poor Nashville Predators last night, and MacKinnon took the opportunity to have some fun, as he registered two goals and an assist.

Note that Mackenzie Blackwood was excellent in his first start with the Avalanche, stopping 37 of the 39 shots aimed at him.

3. Jeff Petry scores his first two goals of the season

The former CH player is not getting any younger at 37 years old, but he still manages to score goals from time to time.

Moreover, last night, he scored his first two goals of the season in a 4-2 victory for the Detroit Red Wings against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He also scored the winning goal.

In defeat, the Maple Leafs still demonstrated great teamwork, as evidenced by this sequence.

4. Nazem Kadri scores another superb goal

After scoring a stunning goal earlier this week by jumping over a Tampa Bay Lightning defender, Nazem Kadri put on a show again, this time against the other Florida team.

Indeed, in a 3-0 victory against the Florida Panthers, Kadri scored a superb goal thanks to a very nice feint.

That now gives him 11 goals and 20 points in 30 games this season.

5. A sensational save for Marc-André Fleury

It wasn’t just Matvei Michkov who stood out as a goalie yesterday in front of the Minnesota Wild net.

Indeed, Marc-André Fleury was in great form, as he rejected 22 of the 23 shots aimed at him, including one on which he made the following superb save.

The Wild won 4 to 1 to continue their domination this season.
