The departing Bruges defender: “Last months in Belgium”

Club Brugge continues to perform well in the Champions League and, with 10 out of 18, is well on its way to the next stage. In addition, it allowed certain players to stand out. After the victory against Sporting CP, several names were undoubtedly noted in the recruiters’ notebooks.

However, the Belgian champions started their penultimate home match of the championship phase in dramatic fashion and fell behind after just a few minutes. But the reaction of the Blauw and Zwart was not long in coming.

Bruges first equalized with an own goal. And in a second half where Club was by far the better team, Casper Nielsen scored the winning goal.

Chelsea and Newcastle on the lookout

A great win, plus the players once again got a great opportunity to step into the spotlight. So, there is no doubt that many European scouts once again visited the Jan Breydel Stadium to take a closer look at some players.

TBR , for example, reports that Chelsea and Newcastle United have sent a man with a specific mission. Both English teams wanted to see Joel Ordoñez in action. The Ecuadorian defender is having an excellent season and is now in the crosshairs of several European clubs.

Besides Chelsea and Newcastle, other Premier League teams have shown concrete interest. Ordoñez is also reportedly on the verge of leaving the Bundesliga.

An inevitable departure

After his excellent performance against scoring machine Viktor Gyökeres, interest will only have grown. Vincent Blouard of La Dernier Heure therefore expects that the defender will not stay long in Bruges.

“Let’s take advantage of Ordoñez’s last months on the Belgian pitch. The 20-year-old Ecuadorian will certainly not stay at Club Brugge forever,” we read.

According to Blouard, the Club can expect significant financial gains. He is therefore also counting on a transfer fee of 25 million euros or more.

The Belgian champions, however, wish to keep their star player until the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether this will be possible.

“He himself says that he is insensitive to rumors and pressure. But the reality could be different during the January transfer window.”
