gullIt hasn’t been easy for Timothy.
Recruited last season by the London club, the former Leicester City player arrived to reinforce the right-back position that Kenny Tete had held since 2020-2021. But competition never really existed. Problems with the Dutchman’s groin and then Achilles tendon allowed Castagne to impose himself on the post and leave only the crumbs for Tete. But all the cards were reshuffled this summer.
A delay in preseason
After the Euro, the Arlonese fell behind in preparation with Fulham. This allowed Tete to play the first matches in August. With success. Coach Marco Silva was convinced by his performances, so much so that Castagne did not receive a single opportunity in the Premier League until a meager rise in action in October. He thus had to be content with the two League Cup matches. With a missed decisive shot on goal, causing the elimination of his team at the end of the second.
With 34 shots on goal, Belgium is the second most productive nation, if not efficient
His ischio injury in the process didn’t help matters either. But the intense period of December and January should offer him new opportunities to regain power. He also celebrated his first start in the championship on December 5 – his 29th birthday – to blow away Kenny Tete who was preferred to him four days earlier and three days later.
“Kenny has started the season very well. It hasn’t been easy for Timothy. They are two top right-backs. But the matches are coming at a fast pace, so it’s time to rotate the team”explained Marco Silva, who will have to manage four outings between now and December 29. Including trips to Liverpool and Chelsea.
