In football, local roots are increasingly called into question, with owners coming from far away and players moving around a lot.
Often, local anchoring comes mainly from supporters. But there are also figures in the club structure that stand out. At Standard, there was one who was known despite his work in the shadows. Close to the players but also to the supporters, he will have known almost everything at Standard.
An emblematic figure
However, on the night of Monday to Tuesday, he made his last journey at the age of 90. Emile Delsaer, better known by the nickname ‘Milou’, has died and leaves a big void in the lives of all those who had the opportunity to cross his path.
Responsible for logistics at Standard for many years, he also visited Saint-Nicolas and Tilleur, which further demonstrated his local roots and the sympathy he was able to create with local supporters.
Friend of D’Onofrio
Close to the players, he was particularly close to Dominique D’Onofrio, to whom he always remained loyal through thick and thin. Always there in moments of happiness as in more complicated moments, ‘Milou’ therefore left to join the man who left us almost nine years ago of a heart attack in Argentina.
