Will there be any consequences, administrative or legal, after the match between FC Rouen and QRM, last Friday December 6? During the match, supporters located in the Zenith stand displayed numerous banners, most of them sporting. But in the second half, two drifted into political territory. The first targets the prefect of Seine-Maritime, inviting him to focus on problems of insecurity, rather than on stadium bans targeting FCR supporters. The second directly targets the private life of an elected official from the Rouen metropolis. Almost a week after the match, could fans be bothered? We asked the different players in the file.
First, the vice-president of the Metropolis targeted. He did not respond to our request, to the question of whether he intended to file a complaint. For its part, the Rouen Metropolis does not comment on this matter and invites us to turn to the prefecture.
Which indicates that“no administrative or judicial procedure is envisaged at this stage”. The prefect, however, emphasizes “the absurdity of the message written on the bannerreminding that the fight against insecurity, and in particular against crimes, constitutes an essential priority for the action of the police services”. The prefecture says it is satisfied “that the supporters have taken note” stadium bans issued against nine of them before the match against QRM. “Such measures will be applied again if similar incidents [à ceux qui ont déclenché ces sanctions] were to reproduce.”
You then have to turn to the club. On our antenna, this Monday, December 9, the president of the FCR, Iwan Postel condemned “in the strongest possible manner” these banners, which he describes as “displaced”. “It really bothered me,” he replied. “It has no place in a stadium. We must not talk about people’s private lives or make serious and inappropriate accusations in a stadium. No matter how much animosity there may be. Even less with these terms.”
So does the club intend to sanction its supporters, or file a complaint? “It’s in the hands of the people organizing the match, assure Iwan Postel. We watch the videos, we go and do what needs to be done. Everything is not in my control, I am not the police. There were failures, including on our side, and we will make sure that this does not happen again.”
Particularly during the next match, against Lille, on Friday December 20, in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France.
