Cadillac F1 team principal Graeme Lowdon has revealed that the team chose Ferrari as its powertrain supplier due to its “confidence” in the Italian manufacturer.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that Cadillac will become a Ferrari customer team, subject to F1 and the FIA agreeing and approving its entry onto the grid in 2026.
The American team is expected to join the grid when the new powertrain regulations are introduced, with Ferrari supplying Cadillac with powertrains and gearboxes.
In doing so, Ferrari now has two customer teams for the new engine regulations, with Cadillac joining Haas F1 as a customer of the Maranello-based team.
As Lowdon pointed out, choosing the right powertrain supplier for its debut is crucial for Cadillac, something it said was achieved with Ferrari.
“We are delighted to partner with Ferrari as a powertrain and transmission supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable heritages.”

Frédéric Vasseur, the team director, will therefore have a second American team as a customer for his engines.
