Huge favorite, Olympic 5,000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the European cross-country championships for the third time on Sunday in Antalya (Turkey), while French title holder Yann Schrub took sixth place.
After two European titles in plowing in 2021 and 2022, Ingebrigtsen skipped this annual meeting in 2023 to devote herself to her Olympic objectives. The Olympics past, with gold in the 5,000m up for grabs, the Norwegian wanted to get his hands back on a competition that never escaped him when he started (he also has four youth titles between 2016 and 2019 ).
Schrub sixth
On a rolling course without much difficulty in Antalya (Turkey), he was at the forefront throughout the race before breaking away in the last lap, to beat the Italian Yemaneberhan after 7,832 m of effort. Crippa and the Spaniard Thierry Ndikumwenayo. Yann Schrub, who last year became the first Frenchman to be crowned European cross-country champion, knew he was in less shape than last winter and finished in sixth place.
Among the women, the Italian Olympic vice-champion in the 10,000 m Nadia Battocletti won the race without much surprise, ahead of the German Konstanze Klosterhalfen and the Turkish Yasemin Can. She concludes a golden year 2024 on the European scene since she also became European champion in June at home in Rome over 5,000 m and 10,000 m.
