Antwerp qualified for the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup this week by beating KV Kortrijk on penalties. But the Great Old also lost a player for a while.
Jonas De Roeck brought on Christopher Scott in the 88th minute of play this week against KV Kortrijk, in anticipation of potential extra time when the two teams were unable to decide between themselves.
But during extra time, in the 100th minute, Scott had to leave the field. The midfielder injured his knee, a relapse from a previous injury.
It’s a hard blow, because the German is injured again for a long time. “Christopher will not need an operation, but he will be out again for a few months,” said coach Jonas De Roeck in comments relayed by Gazet van Antwerpen.
“It’s a big blow despite qualifying,” he added. “He has worked very hard to get back to his level. We have to be without him again for a while.”
The young Christopher Scott, aged 22, arrived in the summer of 2022 from Bayern Munich. Since then, he has only appeared 42 times for the Great Old. This season, he has so far had to make do with increases in play.
