After freeing up a considerable amount of payroll earlier in the day, the New York Rangers settled Igor Shesterkin on Friday as part of a long-term deal.

Shesterkin has agreed to an eight-year contract extension that will see him earn a salary of US$11.5 million annually. This is the largest contract awarded to a goalkeeper in monetary terms.

He is currently in the final year of a four-year pact with an annual value of $5.66 million signed in August 2021.

Kevin Weekes, they NHL Networkas well as the network’s Emily Kaplan ESPNwere the first to report the news.

General manager Chris Drury’s day at work will therefore have been very busy. In the afternoon, the Blueshirts leader sent captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, putting an end to several weeks of speculation regarding the future of the 30-year-old right-handed defenseman.

Shesterkin will turn 29 on December 30. He has 143 victories for the New York team, including 16 obtained by shutout, since his arrival in the league in January 2020.

Among active goalies, Shesterkin’s compatriot Sergei Bobrovsky, of the Florida Panthers, until then received the highest salary in the NHL for a goalie, at $10 million.

Carey Price, for his part, signed a contract with the Montreal Canadiens in 2017 earning him $10.5 million until the end of the 2025-2026 calendar.
