The day after the show by the hypnotist Messmer at the Colisée, the C’Chartres Métropole Basket seemed completely bewitched by a very attractive Caen Basket Calvados. A twelfth defeat for Chartrains which never existed (63-83 defeat).
By starting the match with an 0-8, Chartres did not make their task easy. It’s simple, the first eight possessions of the CCMB produced nothing… In a deficit in the interior sector – Omogbo still being absent – the Chartrains were dominated in rebounds in the first quarter. The Caennais, offering themselves no less than seven second chances in ten minutes, took the lead very quickly (4-14, 7′) to end the first quarter with fifteen points in advance… already (9 -24).
No solution
It went from bad to worse in the second quarter. Unable to play their game, the Chartrains had all the difficulty in the world getting on the field. The external clumsiness didn’t help (1/12 at the break, 2/20 after 31′). And during the second quarter, CCMB conceded three-point shots which allowed Caen to widen the gap, until taking a 25-length lead (23-44, 18′, 25–50). Like a very sad CCMB, Washington scored its first basket after 19 minutes of play… (31-50, halftime).
Caen, despite its very comfortable lead, continued to suffocate a beleaguered CCMB (36-62, 26′ then 43-66, 30′). Facey, David JR and Hannequin had plenty of time to wander around the Chartres defense, without forcing too much.
The Normans then managed the last quarter and we retained their rigor to contain the Chartrains a little more united but largely a tone below (63-83).
Next match Saturday December 14 against Boulazac, leader of ProB.
