Formula 1 | Alpine : Doohan acclimatizes, Gasly started well but

Alpine launched the defense of its 6th place in the constructors' championship with a good 5th place in Free 1 for Pierre Gasly, but in Free 2 the Frenchman fell to 12th position, the two Haas being clearly ahead of him.

Nothing to be alarmed at the moment… but “We have more work than usual after today's testing in Abu Dhabi.”

“FP1 was solid. We did a series of laps with a car with good potential. FP2, however, was very different. I struggled with understeer and front grip. “In general, we tried different things, but we couldn't find much improvement. We're a little outside our tuning window and it was the same feeling with little or a lot of fuel.”

“As always, times are tight and a few tenths will make a big difference. We will work hard to find the right changes and aim for a better performance when it counts tomorrow.”

Jack Doohan's mission was to acclimatize as best as possible to the A524 on this circuit in order to pick up the pace tomorrow. His 19th times in EL1 and 2 are therefore not surprising at this stage.

“Above all, it was a great experience in the car in Abu Dhabi on a very busy day. There is a lot to understand and learn and it was good to do a lot of laps over the two sessions. FP2 were obviously unfamiliar territory for me I just tried to gain momentum and my first laps in this session weren't the cleanest, but that's what testing is for. There is progress. do for the team before EL3 and I can't wait to debrief with the engineers to find these improvements. My goal is to be more and more comfortable with each lap and to continue to get closer to the level to which I aspire. Thank you to the whole team for their work. fierce.”
