The end of the namimg represents a shortfall of €1.9 million for SBA, the company which manages the stadium in this public-private partnership.
“Lots of hypotheses are possible”
Christine Bost, president of Bordeaux Métropole for AFP: “The end of the naming is a loss of income, but it is not a surprise, reacted the president of the metropolis. We can regret that Matmut is withdrawing today. The situation is not as good as one might hope. If we look at the SBA activity report, for 2023, there are no signs of being shut down, and there will be none for 2024. If we leave the tool fallow, if we are not going to look for activities, it will no longer be tenable.
We are going through a difficult period, we have very high quality equipment which represents significant potential. We want to believe in the sporting renaissance of the club, which is why the metropolis has agreed to spread the rent. We can imagine a buyer who can take over the club and the stadium… but many hypotheses are possible. It would not be the most favorable outcome for SBA to cease payments. We are not going to leave this equipment unexploited and unused.”
The Girondins de Bordeaux had a rent of €5M per season.
-Recently, businessman Bruno Fievet revealed a purchase offer that he submitted to Bordeaux Métropole for the stadium.
