Osimhen’s resounding transfer in January: the numbers

The most discussed saga of the last summer transfer window was undoubtedly that of Victor Osimhen. After a summer full of twists and turns, the Nigerian striker finally joined Galatasaray. However, it is very likely that he will already leave Istanbul in January.

A journey marked by key stages

After successful spells at Sporting Charleroi and LOSC, Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 for over €70 million, a record transfer for the Italian club. If his beginnings were hesitant, he ended up meeting expectations in a resounding manner.

In the 2022-2023 season, Osimhen became one of the best strikers in Europe, finishing as Serie A’s top scorer and leading Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years. This success marked the ideal time for a new challenge, but the high financial demands of Napoli have cooled many clubs.

A surprise from Istanbul

Last summer, giants like PSG dropped out of the race, while Chelsea failed to reach an agreement with Napoli. Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli looked close to completing the transfer, but Osimhen refused to leave.

Finally, after growing tensions with his club, a temporary solution was found: a loan to Galatasaray. The Turkish club covers his salary, but this stay could be short-lived.

A clause to facilitate a winter transfer

Depending on the agreement concluded, certain clauses make it possible to easily terminate the loan as early as January. In addition, a release clause with Naples was set at 80 million euros for the winter, an amount which would drop to 70 million next summer.

Clubs like Chelsea are said to continue to monitor his situation closely. However, according to RMC SportPSG would be in pole position and have already started preliminary discussions with a view to a transfer from January.
