MAPUTO (Mozambique) – Ferroviario de Maputo is one of the most successful teams in the FIBA ​​Africa Women’s League (AWBL), with two titles to its name.

The club from the Mozambican capital is making its return after participating in the 2022 edition of the tournament. There is no doubt that he has the pedigree and talent to attempt a third continental title.

QUALIFICATION POUR L’AWBL 2024

Ferroviario, winners of Mozambique’s national championship, qualified for the Zone 6 tournament. Unfortunately, the regional tournament did not take place and the southern African club gained automatic qualification.

KEY PLAYERS AT THE AWBL

Ingvild Mucauro has returned to Ferroviario after joining rivals Costa do Sol, a club she led to the 2022 AWBL final.

Mucauro, 32, featured in Angolan club Interclube’s AWBL campaign last year.

The last time Ferroviario won the continental tournament in 2019, Mucauro was part of the team and was crowned MVP. It is hoped that it will help revive this glorious era.

American Destiny Pitts is another former AWBL winner with Alexandria Sporting Club last year. Pitts played for the Chihuahua Centauros in the Women’s Basketball League America, where her team finished fourth.

Mucauro is a long-time player for the Mozambique national team and participated in the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup in 2014. She has also participated in four AfroBasket tournaments.

Anabela Cossa has extensive experience with Mozambique, having participated in nine AfroBaskets and two editions of the junior AfroBasket.
