THE Ticino had to wait before expressing their superiority, against Yverdonin the round of 16 of the Swiss Cup (0-2).
For more than one period, the Nord-Vaudois gave in without breaking. The Ticino people tried from close range, but Kevin Martin remained almost calm on his line, despite the blows. The break allowed the Yverdon residents to perk up (a little) and start to believe in a return of their lucky star at home, who had faded a little in recent weeks.
The shot even almost was perfect, when in the 49th minute, Mauro Teixeira was on the receiving end of a back pass, 10 meters from Sebastian Osigwe’s goal. The Bissaoguinean’s delivery was however repelled by the post. Yverdon also believed in a recovery at the second post from Moussa Baradji (53rd), but the Frenchman did not catch the target.
In the 50th minute, Renato Steffen almost opened the scoring in his turn. Martin’s exit was too short and it was an involuntary intervention from the back of Mohamed Tijani which saved Alessandro Mangiarratti’s phalanx. The Ticino people were not discouraged and were rightly rewarded by the Football gods a quarter of an hour before a possible extension.
On a cross from the right (76th), Belhadj Mahmoud opened his foot and put an end to the suspense. Seven minutes later, with luck this time, Mattia Zanotti closed the affair with a blocked shot.
