Since September 2023 and his demonstration against Serghei Spivac in Paris, Cyril Gane (12-2-0) has not fought. At the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this weekend, “Bon Gamin” must win against Alexander Volkov (38-10-0) in great form. Indeed, the Russian remains on four consecutive victories but during the first clash between the two fighters in 2021, the Frenchman won the decision after a demonstration. For Cyril Gane, the stakes of this fight are immense.
During his extended absence, the heavyweight class witnessed the rise of Tom Aspinall. The Englishman is the interim heavyweight champion and now everyone dreams of a fight against Jon Jones, champion of the category. However, facing Aspinall is not currently part of Jones’ plans and a victory for Cyril Gane against Volkov would certainly propel him towards a fight against the Englishman. The logical progression of things would be that the winner would then face Jon Jones for the heavyweight belt.
A tempting card
If French MMA fans will have a close eye on the Cyril Gane fight, the last numbered card of the year from the American organization promises to be explosive. In the main fight of the evening, Alexandre Pantoja (28-5-0) and Kai Asakura (21-4-0) face each other for the flyweight belt (-57 kg). In a category that sometimes struggles to interest the general public, the UFC has decided to bring a breath of fresh air to the division since the Japanese Kai Asakura will participate in a clash for the belt… for his first fight within the organization .
The 31-year-old Japanese distinguished himself on the Asian circuit where he was notably champion of RIZIN (Japanese organization) in -61 kg. In Las Vegas, he will face the biggest challenge of his career against Alexandre Pantoja, who has already defended his belt twice. The Brazilian has a formidable ground while the Japanese is renowned for his striking.

Initially, Shavkat Rakhmonov was scheduled to face Belal Muhammad for the welterweight belt (-77kg) in main event of the UFC. However, the American champion withdrew after an injury and Ian Machado Garry jumped at the opportunity to replace him.
A particularly enticing clash since it will pit two fighters who are undefeated in their careers. The Kazakh is 18-0 while the Irish are 15-0. Even more amazing, Shavkat Rakhmonov has never made a decision since the start of his career. All of his fights were won by KO, TKO or submission. The preliminary card of this UFC 310 also presents some interesting fights, notably the one between Movsar Evloev and Aljamain Sterling. The Russian is undefeated since the start of his career and will have to overcome a big chunk in the presence of Sterling, former champion of the bantamweight category. The two men will face each other in featherweight, a division dominated by new UFC star Ilia Topuria.
