the essential
The Spacer’s (7th) coach spoke before the reception in Cannes this Friday evening, December 6. Kick-off of this eleventh day of SpikeLigue, at the Palais des sports: 8 p.m.
Promoted, Cannes occupies fifth place in the championship: is this a surprise for you?
Every year there is a spoilsport team and for the moment it is Cannes. It’s a very complete team, which doesn’t have many flaws, which is perfectly organized. There aren’t any big names on paper but it plays really well. I am thinking in particular of their passer who has a lot of experience (the Dane Axel Jacobsen, 40 years old, Editor’s note), who distributes the game perfectly and thus creates a lot of uncertainty. Frankly, it’s a team that is very difficult to play against and which has already made some good moves away from home (Paris, Sète and Narbonne).

Your team suffered three defeats before winning in Montpellier on the last day (3-2). Reassured?
It’s already good to have finally validated a tie-break. It was the sixth we played out of ten matches. We are the team that has played the most sets. It’s starting to pull a little (smile). Winning in Montpellier, which remains a favorite for the title, is not given to everyone and such a performance will inevitably give us confidence. The objective is to continue to score points, everywhere and all the time.

Three consecutive defeats at home for a team that used to perform at the Palais des Sports: it’s the right time to react, right?
Yes. We would like to perform better at home. We are lacking a bit of success unlike last season when we had quite a bit in certain matches which went in our favor. We compensate externally. It’s a bit like this championship, moreover, where we realize that it’s not necessarily a guarantee of success to receive. Everyone can win everywhere. But we’re going to be in front of the television, there will be an audience and we all really want to put on a great performance.
