Colombia have secured their place in the 2024 Copa America final after beating Uruguay 1-0 to join Argentina.

The 2024 Copa America final is set: Colombia will face Lionel Messi’s Argentina, the reigning Copa America and World Cup champions, on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Colombia extended their unbeaten run to 28 games with the win, inspired by James Rodríguez’s superb corner kick against Lerma in the 39th minute for his sixth assist, the most of any player at this Copa America.

Colombia also overcame the challenge of playing with 10 men after defender Daniel Muñoz received his second yellow card and a red card for elbowing a Uruguayan player just before half-time.

Mateus Uribe missed two shots, one in the 85th minute and another in extra time, unable to connect on two open chances towards the net to score a second goal for Colombia, much to the dismay of Colombian fans who wanted a knockout blow.

For their part, Uruguay failed to score in their last two matches of the tournament and needed a 4-2 penalty shootout to beat Brazil in the quarter-finals.

Uruguay, tied with Argentina for the most Copa America titles with 15, will not have the chance to match the Albiceleste for another. Colombia have reached their third Copa America final (1975, 2001) and are hoping to win their second title (2001).
