(Ecofin Agency) – As the extraordinary FIFA congress approaches, Morocco is showing its determination to take up this major challenge of jointly organizing the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. During the Council of Ministers chaired this Wednesday, December 4 by King Mohammed VI at the royal palace in Rabat, an inventory of the preparations was presented, confirming the scale of the national mobilization.

Before King Mohammed VI, Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget and president of the 2030 World Cup Committee, presented a presentation on the progress of preparations. This royal audience was also an opportunity to announce the creation of an expanded committee bringing together civil society, Moroccans from around the world and African experts. Responsible for steering large-scale strategic projects, this committee reflects a clear royal ambition: to make the 2030 World Cup a historic turning point, transforming this sporting event into an engine of development and a symbol of regional cooperation.

A national mobilization in the service of a transcontinental project

Ongoing preparations focus on ambitious infrastructure projects. The renovation and upgrade of stadiums is progressing rapidly to meet strict FIFA standards. Host city airports are undergoing upgrades to accommodate thousands of expected visitors. Road transport and intra-urban networks are being strengthened to make travel more fluid, while hotel and commercial infrastructures are being expanded to guarantee optimal reception conditions.

Morocco also plans to modernize its telecommunications networks and its medical offer, while launching a vast training program to provide young local skills with the tools necessary for their active participation. These investments, desired by the highest authority of the State, go beyond the framework of the sporting event: they are part of a sustainable vision, designed to strengthen the country’s assets.

The ambition of the Cherifian sovereign is for this edition of the World Cup to make history. King Mohammed VI sees it as much more than a sporting event: “ a bridge between two continents and two civilizations: Africa and Europe », as he clearly underlined during his Speech from the Throne in 2023. This intercontinental formula, unprecedented in the history of the competition, imposes a logistical setup of great complexity that Morocco says it is ready to take on.

A strategic opportunity for Morocco and Africa

Beyond that, the 2030 World Cup promises to be a major turning point, with certain matches being held on African soil for the first time (excluding South Africa in 2010). This project, led by Morocco as part of a joint application with Spain and Portugal, represents a major step forward for Africa, offering the continent a global showcase to demonstrate its know-how and potential. It also embodies exemplary collaboration between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

Often described as a “masterstroke”, this tripartite partnership offers Morocco the opportunity to demonstrate its ability to work in a dynamic of complementarity and sharing.

The co-organization of an event of such magnitude will allow Morocco to assert itself on the international scene. Economically, this competition could become an engine of economic growth, generating thousands of jobs and boosting strategic sectors such as tourism and infrastructure.

In addition, the African dimension of this candidacy strengthens Morocco’s role as a regional leader, while placing the entire continent in the spotlight. Thus, by joining forces with European partners, the Shereef kingdom translates the ambition of an ambitious, modern Africa open to the world.

It should also be noted that the evaluation report of the international organization, published on November 29, 2024, awarded an exceptional score to the file submitted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, reinforcing the hopes of a decision favorable at the next extraordinary congress.

As the FIFA vote draws closer, Morocco is redoubling its efforts to demonstrate its ability to organize a historic edition. With a file unanimously praised for its quality and exemplary mobilization at all levels, the country positions itself as a key player in this ambitious project. If successful, this candidacy will mark a turning point for Morocco and for the entire African continent, placing this edition in history as an event uniting continents, cultures and ambitions around the passion for football.
