It was at the gates of the Indian Ocean that Louis Burton abandoned the Vendée Globe after suffering a “serious damage”.
After Maxime Sorel, this is the second abandonment in this 10th edition of the solo round-the-world race without stopover and without assistance. The start was given on November 10 in Les Sables-d’Olonne.

-On the Vendée Globe website, we learn that on Wednesday December 4, around 1 p.m. (Paris time), “Louis Burton warned the race management and his technical team that he encountered serious damage to a mechanical element of the rigging of his Imoca”.
For 10 hours, the skipper looked for a solution to repair it, in vain. He had to decide to give up in the night.
In the 11 p.m. rankings, Louis Burton was in 16th position. He is currently en route to Cape Town, South Africa.
Louis Burton had already suffered initial damage in mid-November and had to repair “the cracks of his boat alone at sea”.
He won third place during the ninth edition of the Vendée Globe in 2021.
