The Canadiens could have the two best rookies in the NHL

The Canadiens could have the two best rookies in the NHL

I don’t know when Lane Hutson will score his first NHL goal. But in the meantime, it’s not useless.

The CH defenseman is not part of the rotation of defenders who have to skip their turn once in a while because he is simply too useful on the ice.

His offensive contribution is undeniable.

Even if he is not perfect defensively, he energizes the CH attack and on the numerical advantage, he is dangerous. It’s not for nothing that yesterday he was on the first wave.

His 16 assists in 25 games make him the best rookie defenseman in the league in terms of points this year. And truth be told, among all the rookies, only one player surpasses him in terms of points.

You guessed it, we’re talking about Matvei Michkov.

The Flyers prospect has 19 points, which ranks him first among rookies in the NHL right now. This is no surprise, considering the talent is coming out of his ears.

What this means is that the CH could have had the two best rookies in the NHL if it had chosen to draft Matvei Michkov instead of David Reinbacher in 2023.

I’m not here to want to change everything since I wanted the Austrian, who is currently injured. Michkov, in the long term, I see him as a bad apple in an NHL locker room.

But the fact remains that the point still arises.

Note that Emil Heineman is in the top-10 at the moment (eight points) and that next year, we can expect to see Ivan Demidov in place of Michkov. But we’ll see in due time.
