It’s official, Roberto De Zerbi is the coach of Olympique de Marseille. This Tuesday, the new Marseille tactician was presented to journalists.

Olympique de Marseille launches its 2024-2025 season this week. This Monday, OM resumed training, with Roberto De Zerbi in charge of his first session, and this Tuesday, the Olympian coach appeared at a press conference, for his official presentation to journalists.

In his first words, the Italian tactician sent a strong message at the press conference.

“Hello everyone (in French). There are two reasons, the seriousness that I saw when I spoke with Pablo and Medhi Benatia. And then OM is OM. I had good memories of the club when I played against OM with Brighton. I also talked about a discussion that had not come to anything before I went to coach Brighton. Football is my job but also a passion. This public, stadium, this team in Marseille is something unique. I hope that we will do a good job and that people will appreciate me as a person and as a coach.”

From his first responses as Marseille coach, De Zerbi gave a nod to Marcelo Bielsa, another coach who left his mark on OM.

“Marcelo Bielsa is a great coach, someone I knew when I started and when he was coaching Lille he hosted me for a week. Bielsa is a top coach, one of the best in the world. I define myself as a football fanatic, who experiences it in an exaggerated way.”

The Roberto De Zerbi train is well and truly underway.
