LAGOS (Nigeria) – Mountain of Fire and Miracles, commonly known as MFM, is not its first attempt to qualify for the finals of the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA).
Last year, the team was confident they would make it to Alexandria, Egypt in the Zone 3 qualifiers, but they were brutally surprised by ASPAC of Benin, who ended up joining Nigeria Customs.
Having learned from this bitter experience, the Nigerian champions were better prepared this time to secure a ticket and they did so on the second attempt in Liberia, where the Women’s Basketball League Africa Zone 3 qualifiers were held, reaching the final against the Ivorians of FBA.
Mountain of Fire and Miracles Women Basketball from Lagos entered the WBLA Zone 3 qualifiers after winning the Nigerian championship in October.
MFM retained the championship title they first won in 2023. In 2024, MFM defeated Nigeria Customs 64-53.
MFM qualified for the WBLA finals after defeating Nigeria Customs of Abuja in the semi-finals in Monrovia, Liberia.
In the semi-final of the zone qualifiers, MFM confirmed its supremacy over Customs by winning 57-53 to secure its ticket to the final.
