Quite a revenge for Hendrik Van Crombrugge. The one who joined KRC Genk after being left out of RSC Anderlecht extends until 2027 in Limburg.

Hendrik Van Crombrugge definitely has thick skin. At 31, he has just extended his contract at Racing Genk until 2027, he who was until now linked to the club until 2026. An extension which is certainly accompanied by a salary increase.

Last season, Van Crombrugge arrived from Anderlecht where he was sidelined following Bart Verbruggen’s explosion between the poles. The RSCA then needed money and therefore favored the emergence of the young Dutch prodigy, who brought in 20 million for Mauve & Blanc six months later.

But in Genk, again: the veteran found himself in the shadow of Maarten Vandevoordt. A situation that he was of course aware of when he arrived: the idea was that Van Crombrugge would replace the international hopeful at the end of the season, when he left for RB Leipzig. But after this transitional season, the former Eupen player had the misfortune of injuring his back.

It was then the young talent Mike Penders who took his place between the poles… and stunned everyone. To the point of landing a lightning transfer for Chelsea. We thought we would see Penders n°1… but Van Crombrugge made his comeback, and is now indisputable.

To the point of extending his contract in Limburg. “Hendrik has a strong personality and a positive influence on the team dynamic. His presence in the locker room and on the pitch is very appreciated by both the technical staff and his teammates,” rejoices Dimitri De Condé in the press release announcing the extension of Van Crombrugge.
