The name of Ilyes Bennane caused a brief buzz last season. The young midfielder had indeed become the youngest international in the history of Belgian football.

Ilyes Bennane is only 13, not an age at which people are generally already talking about a future career or high potential. But last season there was a buzz in the creative world, maintained by the press and by those around him who were convinced that they had a real gem in their hands.

And it must be said that Bennane seems on the right track: last February, he became a Belgian U15 international, at the age of only 13. The earliest in the history of Belgian football in this category, the first of the international youth teams.

In the process, Ilyes Bennane signed for RSC Anderlecht, who stole the young talent from KRC Genk. A sort of revenge taken on the exiles of El Khannouss, Godts and Karetsas, recently.

The Last Hour relates, however, that Bennane once again surprised his world: while he had recently become a Belgian international, here he is now… a Moroccan international. The youngster from Neerpede even apparently became the youngest captain in the history of Morocco’s U15s.

Bennane played 90 minutes in a 3-a-side tournament with Mexico and Spain, which of course does not mean he has made his choice in favor of either of his potential nations. At his age, he will especially have to progress in the shadows…
