Red Wings: Kane placed on injured reserve

Patrick Kane was placed on injured reserve by the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, retroactive to November 23, with an upper body injury.

The forward will miss a fifth straight game as the Red Wings begin a two-game road trip against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; HULU, ESPN+, SNO, SNE, SN1). Coach Derek Lalonde indicated Monday that Kane could face the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.

Detroit recalled defenseman William Lagesson from Grand Rapids to the American Hockey League on Tuesday, and the 28-year-old rearguard could play his first game in a Red Wings uniform. He had five points (two goals, three assists) in 13 AHL games.

The Red Wings also urgently recalled guard Sebastian Cossa from Grand Rapids on Monday.

The 22-year-old goalie is 9-4-1 with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in 14 AHL games this season. He was selected in the first round (15th overall) of the 2021 draft.

“It’s a dream come true,” Cossa said Monday. I have never set foot in Boston. I’m really excited to just go on the road with the team and get to know the guys. Just living this lifestyle is a dream come true. »

Ville Husso is expected to get the start against the Bruins on Tuesday.

Cam Talbot, the Red Wings’ number one goaltender, left Sunday’s game, a 5-4 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks, in the second period with a lower body injury. Goalkeeper Alex (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, retroactive to November 27.

“I’m optimistic, because he was able to play two or three more minutes after getting hurt, and he was moving without too much problem today,” Lalonde said of Talbot on Monday. However, he will undergo an imaging test and we will find out more. »
