Lardot reframes a JPL referee: “He made several mistakes”

Beerschot made an incredible comeback against Cercle de Bruges last weekend. While trailing 0-2 at halftime, the Rats managed to win 3-2.

Two errors

During this match, Edgar Utkus received a red card after referee Kevin van Damme was called by VAR. A red card which should have been given without the intervention of VAR according to Jonathan Lardot.

It must be said that the Bruges defender’s tackle on Antoine Colassin was particularly violent: “We expected a direct red card. We do not need VAR for such a situation. The referee was in a perfect position, we are so surprised that he didn’t make this decision on his own. The VAR did its job well,” Lardot said.

Van Damme also did not see the arm fault of a Cercle de Bruges player in the penalty area. Once again, it was the VAR who had to intervene: “This phase too was not well evaluated. Perhaps the referee was still thinking about the other situation. However, we see that the defender’s arm does not “is not stuck to the body. He enlarges his body surface and the ball hits his arm. It was obvious to give a penalty.”

Licensed

As a reminder, Miron Musicic was fired after this meeting. While waiting to find a new coach, Cercle has entrusted Jimmy De Wul with the reins of the team.
