After being seen throwing paper projectiles during a stormy match between Le Havre Athletic Club and Stade de Reims in the port city on November 10, a little boy was excluded from the stadium for two months.
Can a child be banned from a stadium? Le Havre Athletic Club (HAC), a Ligue 1 club, has decided, and it’s yes. For having thrown projectiles on the field, a young 6-year-old supporter was excluded for two months, reports France Bleu Normandie, confirming information from the newspaper The Team.
The events took place on November 10, during the very turbulent meeting between the HAC and the Stade de Reims. The boy was filmed throwing paper cups and pieces of paper onto the pitch at the Océane stadium. His uncle, who accompanied him, did not stop him and was therefore also banned from attending three matches.
“The regulation does not distinguish the child from the adult”
At the end of the HAC-Stade de Reims match, the Le Havre coach and the goalkeeper coach of Le Havre Athletic Club received a red card. The Football League delegate present at the Océane stadium reported to the Le Havre club that projectiles were being thrown from the stands towards the pitch, explains France Blue Normandy. “It was by viewing the remote surveillance images that the club spotted the 6-year-old child throwing paper cups and pieces of paper without his uncle intervening”described the HAC.
The club then contacted the parents of the young supporter to explain to them that “the regulation does not distinguish the child from the adult” and that any incident in a stadium deserves sanction. “All children must come accompanied to the stadium, finally recalls the HAC. For their safety, but also to remind them to behave well”.
After the match, Le Havre AC also filed a complaint against a supporter who was intercepted during the search at the entrance with smoke bombs. The same day, six Reims supporters were also arrested in the Le Havre area.
