Joan Laporta wants Nico Williams at Barca

Reassuring about Barça’s economic situation, Joan Laporta expressed his admiration for Nico Williams (21 years old), Athletic Bilbao player and revelation of Euro 2024 with La Roja.

Joan Laporta has a crush. Speaking to Catalunya Radio, the Barça president confirmed his interest in Athletic Bilbao player Nico Williams, currently with La Roja to play in Euro 2024 in Germany. The manager is convinced that the financial aspect is not necessarily a barrier to attracting the 21-year-old player, under contract until 2027 with the Basques.

“I like Nico a lot. I can say that financially we can get there. It is the result of the work that has been done over all these years to get to this point. We could of course face a signing of this level,” said the Catalan leader on Monday, confirming information from Mundo Deportivo about Barcelona’s interest in Nico Williams, valued at 60 million euros on Transfermarkt.

One of the revelations of the Euro

Author of a full season with Bilbao (5 goals and 14 assists in 31 Liga matches), Nico Williams is a key player for Luis de la Fuente, who started him in four of the five matches of the Roja at the Euro. The winger notably distinguished himself against Georgia (4-1) in the round of 16, scoring a magnificent goal.

Along with Lamine Yamal, he will be one of the spearheads of the Spanish selection for the semi-final against the French team on Tuesday evening in Munich (9pm). “They are at a very high level and above all, they are rare players with a profile that we find less and less in current football”, appreciated his teammate Mikel Oyarzabal before the victory against Germany. “They have this carefree attitude and, no matter the rival, they will play the same way, it is beneficial for the team.” Needless to say, the Catalan press already imagines this dream duo under the same jersey.
