Sébastien Pocognoli is the new coach of Union Saint-Gilloise. Things were starting to get tight for the Unionists.

Early this afternoon, Union Saint-Gilloise surprised by making official the arrival of Sébastien Pocognoli as successor to Alexander Blessin. An appointment that surprised: Pocognoli was at the head of the Belgian U18s and had never been at the head of a first team.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, this collaboration is mainly the work of a last-minute choice. Let us recall that the championship resumes in less than three weeks and that the Unionists are playing the Belgian Supercup against Club Brugge on July 20.

Sébastien Pocognoli must quickly (re)find his bearings

But above all, the group is leaving for training tomorrow. And while Anderlecht must resolve to leave without the slightest reinforcement to work on its automatisms, Union was very close to leaving without a head coach.

It is therefore Chris O’Loughlindescribed as Pocognoli’s mentor, who decided to speed things up. The two men know each other very well since Sébastien Pocognoli ended his playing career at Parc Duden before taking charge of the Unionist U21s.

As an illustration of the acceleration of the case, the players would have only learned the news at the same time as everyone else, at the time of the official announcement.
