Seeing him collect medals and records, we ended up taking him for a superman, but this time, he said stop. Léon Marchand, quadruple Olympic swimming champion this summer during the Paris 2024 Games, announced, Saturday, November 30, on social networks, that he would ultimately not participate in the short course world championships, in Budapest, from 10 to December 15.

“The year 2024 has been very intense, I have done a lot of big competitions and I am exhausted, explains the Frenchman on his Instagram account. It’s time for me to take a step back and train hard to prepare for future challenges. » Speaking – in English – to his fans, Marchand added: “I’m sure you’ll understand. [ma décision] and I look forward to what will come in the future. »
Marchand, who was one of the most striking figures of the Paris Games, had recently proven that he was very efficient in the 25-meter pool. In October and November he participated in three stages of the World Cup organized in Asia during which he accumulated successes (in 100, 200 and 400 m medley) and good times – he notably broke the world record for 200m medley.
Marchand’s next big objective should be the World Championships (long course of 50 meters) in Singapore, in the summer of 2025, where he will put his titles in the 200 and 400 m medley, as well as the 200 m butterfly, on the line.
